Tom Bruce has long kept his nose to the club grindstone. A Sydney stalwart, T.B has worked tirelessly in his efforts to further the harbour city’s dance landscape. From steering his own label ship Start Local Records, to releasing records via clipp.art and Paradiso plus delivering mixes for online radio shows such for Balamii and Area 3000, it’s fair to say Tom’s been putting in work!

Until recently, Tom had called Nottingham UK home. Over two years, he soaked up all there was to learn about how those in the Northern hemisphere navigate the rave. Now, back on home soil, the dude is spilling over with creativity and vigour. Welcome to ‘Cloudy Days Often Have The Best Sunsets’.

This optimistically titled EP certainly lives up to its name, gliding along like a puck on ice. Straight out of the gate is ‘Faux Personality’, a jolly bongo number with acidic licks and 80’s synth play. If you’re looking to break the world record for the longest light jogging distance, throw this on repeat. In addition, Dutchman and label friend HATT.D lathers on more acid with a tidy remix.

For seconds we have ‘Get In Line’, a well-brewed grind that like its name suggests should focus you on the task at hand. Clubbing. Consisting of squelchy keys and industrial tones, this one encourages all to join in the collective dance. Taking the subs down a rabbithole, Joe Morris steps in too, reimagining ‘Get In Line’ as something a little more late night (or early morning), however you want to look at it.

As we roll over to the B side, Tom introduces a hit of melancholy. ‘Cry Club’ is a puller of heart strings. Defined by scuttling percussive elements and angelic vocal calls, this record’s reminiscent of work from the likes of Louf & Tom VR. A gentle ride that’ll make you tear up and smile simultaneoulsy. Here’s proof of a producer with versatility, a man destined to make his audiences feel a melting pot of emotions. Featuring on this one with production credits is Max Cozy, a pal who has rode shotgun with T.Bruce on his journey since day dot. What’s more, FBI Radio host Caitlin Medcalf, offers up her own aggressive take on the matter. A flip that’ll have techno folk licking their chops.

Quickly drying our eyes post ‘Cry Club’ comes ‘North of the Underground’. A loungey runner with a spritely edge. Full of comfy chords and rubbed out bass born of a warm weather system, the closer’s jolly as all get-out.
